Has this happened to anyone's steering wheel? It was like that on the 93 GL I just bought. I didn't know if the steering wheels were like that and separated over time or something happened. The break is smooth so I didn't think someone cut it.

I think the break is already there, but after years of heat and cold the material must have shrunk and made the gap larger. -

Yes, I agree that it's probably from years of expansion and contraction with the heat and cold. But I've never seen one on a Festy like that. My '99 Festy spent most of its 23 years in Pittsburgh, with 4 in SoCal with the heat, and my wheel was smoothed out from wear, but never split. Time for a run to the junkyard; get an old RX-7 wheel.If it has boobs or wheels, sooner or later you're going to have trouble with it.
