Nice to remember one leather bench seat of my posterior.

Back in the day, a trip to Tijuana could yield a fine reupholster in high grade Mexican leather, at cheap vinyl replacement prices; though now days travel south of the border seems as if a suicidal urge.

I wonder if there is any of that industry still existent, which in the past had been so popular?

My father's brother got his red w/white port hole roof '57 T-bird, a custom glove leather bench seat in red; easy to imagine now, from that source.

Seat heaters are easy...suede leather that does not slide and makes you feel like you and the car are one...does not sweat.. that is hard to find, especially if color is involved.

One hot new item in saxophone repair lately, are "roo pads" made from kangaroo hide; which are far longer lasting, stronger, and much more supple than the cowhide pads for the tone hole chimneys-which has been the standard for well over a hundred years, since Adolph Sax's original designs during the 1840s.

Thus one wonders if that kangaroo leather, might make good car seats too?

I remember when I was a child growing up in Eugene, OR that the University of Oregon track team coach Bill Bowerman, then also the perennial US Olympic team coach often; used to annually take the whole team deer hunting, to kill for hides team members made their own ultra-light spike shoes from. My uncle actually broke into the locker room one time, to steal a pair of miler Dyrol Burleson's shoes; managing to come away with two left feet however, so not only screwing up-he also deprived the great athlete of effectively two pair of shoes, rather than only one pair.

Bowerman is also co-founder of Nike, and I got to often examine that unusual mismatched pair of deer hide shoes; which are an amazing study in less being more, the Nike label seems to've gotten away from largely.

Adidas sports shoes used to be made out of kangaroo skin until animal rights activists complained. They were very light and comfortable. I am sure it would make for some good seat cover material. Just don't tell the animal rights activists.

How about some sheepskin seat covers?
The same company will make you kangaroo skin covers.

Actually, I was waiting for someone to comment on answering the question on the homepage about the last Australian manufacturer in existence. As long as she personally delivers the seat covers to my door.
