  • why is this festiva 3990?

in my quest to find truth, i phone the dealership. i like the car, im curious what makes it worth this price. i ask what mods have been done to it. mods, whats that he replied. well like another engine etc. i explain. he said well it has the air cleaner on it. hood scoop i guess he means. so i sense his stupidity and laziness, and ask the miles, he cant tell me, well over 100k he says. but how well over 100k. i couldnt even get accurate mileage outta him. then i ask about the price, well he tells me that the blue book price for a 92 festiva is $4990. i ask him again to make sure i wasnt hearing things. and he said it again. so what a deal at 3990 huh. i guess down by st. louis they use a different nada book for festiva's.

16 records show up in carfax. that's quite a few so it's probably had a lot of owners and possibly some liens or other stuff too. probably be smart to check it out fully on carfax if you are really interested. it's pretty expensive though. see if you can get a copy of the real blue book price. copy the page and show him or something. i don't think it could be that high. just some thoughts.

yeah it would be interesting to see the car up close. but the nada book on a 92gl isnt near 4990. dealers are such slime.

a 1993 I would figure could go for around 1800-2300 anymore than that and i would pass, i however have found festys for much less than even that, going price around here is around 800-1200$

he seemed the type that would just sit on the car rather than do a deal. at that price im certainly not interested. i was just curious if it had mods that would justify that price. and i was amazed at his blue book statement.

dealerships seem to think they can rip people off and there is a lot of idiots out there. at least when an owner sells a car they usually do it for a reasonable price. but not always. lot's of greedy people.

In pefect shape, it should be around $2000 according to nadaguides.com
Perhaps this will help you out?
I did this just for my own interests. As I have seen a number of Aspires today flipping through autotrader.com and craigslist that seemed a bit high. Perhaps they weren't too far from a fair deal.

lotta difference between 2k and almost 4k though. yeah i did the nada search also.

it looks like a euro side turn signal marker to me.

yeah it is a 93....must be my eyes..not your eyes..lol

hood scoop, xm radio, not stock wheels, different grill--still doesn't seem to add up to 3990 does it? :?

Agreed, $2K is another complete car! World of difference between $2K and $4K agreed. When I was talking about the Aspires not being too far off from a good deal, I meant asking price on various online want ads, and the nada search values... and I double checked these, and most of what I have found was above the "blue book estimate" as well. It really saddens me that people are selling stuff for inflated rates. Insurance companies use the "blue book" to gauge their prices, premiums etc off of, as do a lot of car lots... so why are there so many recent examples of people attempting to sell vehicles for more than that? OMG gas has gone uP! I better mark this 40 MPG car up a couple thousand, people will panic and buy it! Makes me even more satisfied that I haven't even hit $700 on my Festy, including the parts and time I put into it.

yeah it is a nice looking car. dealers do tend to charge more, but what i didnt appreciate was the guy plainly stating the book value on the car was 4990. thats just a lie.
