  • Is there other cars out there you can mix and match as much as the Festiva?

Always curious to know if there are any other cars that allow the mixing and matching of engines, transmissions, as you can do with the Festiva?
Aspires and Sways all around, Miata B6 installed, KYB G2Rs just installed in front. Wish for coil overs someday.

The VW Golfs come with a good amount of things. Most of them are made for Golfs though, but there's a lot of parts you can play with and mixing/matching the what... 6 different generations of them. I have a friend right now with a MK1 and he's putting in a Mk5 motor, with Mk3 suspension.

The whole Honda tuning Juggernaut started because of the massive degree of cookie cutter engineering Honda used in the late '80s/early '90s.

Pretty much everyone does it, just to varying degrees. Why pay your guys to design the same part 8-20 times, once for each vehicle, when you don't have to? Hell, my buddy's '84 Mustang has a '96 Windsor block, heads from a '60s Cougar (IIRC), a carb that used to be bolted to a Chev 350 in a Jeep YJ, an '87 Mercury oil pan and transmission internals from an '03 F150.

Also the Toyota M engines bolt right up in any vehicle that used an R engine (I was going to drop a 7M into my brother's '81 pickup before he sold it)

All the '80s/'90s and some '00s GM FWD stuff is pretty swappable too, you can put an LS4 in a Fiero, FWD Regal or whatever else without too much trouble

Also worth noting that the Mazda2 5 speed is an F-series trans.

Every 88-2000 Honda Civic has an engine and transmission that will fit in any other 88-2000 Honda Civic. ( This includes the CRX and del Sol )

I have a 94 Civic with an engine that was cherry picked from a car in Japan. D15B + jdm ecu.

They handle insanely good with 20 dollar ebay springs too !

GM vehicles from the 60s and 70s. An 'iron Duke' 6, aluminum 215 Buick or even a Corvette 454 etc etc would bolt into any of their products.

Nissan is like that too. My 200sx had the engine out of a 240sx, front suspension out of a 240, rear out of a 300zx, and 280z springs.
Coincidentally strange is the fact that the Z32 shares headlights with the older Lamborghini's, and its cheaper to get Lambo replacement lights....
The ATX Z32 and 240sx also share the same transmission. Injectors clips and O-rings ( iirc) from a hummer are a direct swap for us as well.
                  Fast....Women are fast
                  Quick...Nestle is quick

                  I Speak French....in German! lol.

When i worked at the Lambo dealership, i had to order headlights for a Diablo SV, and they came in a Nissan box, lol. I got in pretty bad trouble for it because they were 600 at the nissan dealership and 1400 from Lamborghini. There's a carbon fiber cover that sits across the top of the headlight on a SV and it's there to hide "Nissan" thats stamped across the top.

At one time Jeeps used to be a popular mix and match vehicle. They had all kinds of kits for installing everything including Chevy V-8s from Advance Adapters.

The E/F/G nomenclature is based on the diff spline count, so unless they changed something it would likely accept Automatic Festiva or 5spd 323 axles.
Bell pattern and input shaft spline is just based on whatever engine it's bolted to, in this case the ZY-VE.
                        It's a hydro clutch with a 2-cable shifter setup.

The Mazda3 also used the F35MR for a bit behind the less-torquey motors.

Yes, there are many. The list is so long. As mentioned earlier Jeeps is one. Mustangs from 1979-2004 share a lot of similar suspension parts since they are based on the 1978 Ford Fairmont. AMC models share a lot of the same parts also.
