  • My quandary. Escort GT?

I'm stuck in a loop and can't decide what i should do. I found a good 91 escort GT has the header and cold-air intake, with about 90,000 miles. He wants $1300 and not budging. A great member here on the Forum gave me a BP with a bad block. I have a B8 in the Festiva that I want to upgrade.
    1. Buy the escort, remove motor, intake, exhaust and ECU. Put my good working B8 motor and stuff into the escort and resell. I have limited space.
    2. Have a long block done at a machine shop on the motor Rick gave me, buy a OBX header, buy an intake, buy an ECU.

    Which way to go?

I'm not sure I would put the B8 in the Escort. May be hard to sell that way. Most (not all) people would never buy it if they knew it didn't have original designed engine. I would save the added work and expense of putting a motor in the Escort and just finish parting it out. A lot depends on the condition of the Escort as well.

I do not have much room to hold onto pieces of a car for much time.

If I buy a $250 motor I will still need an exhaust header (OBX$200), intake VAF cold air intake($150) and a manual ECU(50-150$) So that is like $700. The Junkyard motor is a big question mark as well. Finding a good one from a wrecked car.
I like this plan IF I could get a good motor this way. I saw a thread describing the color inside the valve cover gasket. What else do I need for finding a good motor? car-parts.com has a couple Kia BPs for 250, escort BP for 400s, Protege LX for 350-450. Mazda MX-5 miata for 500. I appreciate your help.

Hmn, does the EGT come with any other stuff?

Honestly i bought my escort gt for 700$ and it has 60,000kms. they arent worth anything.

If you go to the guy with 1000 cash the next time you see him he might take it, you never know. Then go on kijiji and craigslist and part the rest out. Easiest would be the rims and tires. next brake components etc. doors, glass, hatch. Maybe you know someone with an EGT you can give the shell to as a favor for something else?

either way, i never liked junkyard motors. Id get one as a spare though.

4 cyls are like $125 at the u pull it, another $100 would probalby cover the tranny harness and ecu.

Don't need a header, exhaust manifold works just fine.. I think some of the kia's had the tubular manifolds stock, not sure. maybe could find a junkyard one.
