  • February Festivas .... my drivers

    Festivas round my house ….

The yellow ’90 L Plus – 56,000 miles, just about like new in and out, two-owner car, now my daily driver when I’m not on the motorcycle ….

    The inside is nice:

No rust and nice original paint:

And the ’93 L that I’ve had for about 5 years now, approaching 300K but still rolling on like the Energizer bunny … scruffy but no rust!

Together, they make a good gas-saving pair …

A steady 43 MPG on the red one and 41 MPG for the yellow … this is the way to go when you don’t know what gas will cost, and a pleasure to drive to boot!

Holy crap! Your yellow one is pristine!!

Your front seats don't even look like they've ever even been sat in.

How did you find that one and how many miles a year are you putting on it? I'm sooo jealous!

I would kill you to own that Festiva!

Ok maybe that's a bit extreme, but yeah. Love the yellow ones and with that low mileage and pristine interior! Great car!

          Both great cars!

It's weird how the one with over 300k gets better MPG lol

Makes me miss my yellow one. Funny is that my dad's white 91 with 225k gets better than the yellow 91 with 160k. Maybe it's just something about the yellow!!

My Yellow 90 LPlus also gets lower MPG that my Aqua 92 GL (both 5 speed), the Yellow also has less miles on it.

So many variables to consider...one of the biggest is speed...I'll bet the MPG on these 216 drivers cars improve. http://www.postandcourier.com/articl...e-526-speeders

Well...you know what they say. Yellow is faster! So your increase in speed must be decreasing your MPG!

I would not drive that yellow one. I'd put in a climate controlled storage unit forever.

                    Cost and Benefit

I guess the Yellow ones are kinda like high maintenance women...they require a lot more time and money and use more of your resources.

I found the yellow one via a guy on this list who knew I was looking for a pristine Festiva, and he forwarded me a message from "Corvette Dave" who was putting the car up for sale in North Carolina.

Several people had responded to his email asking questions, but I knew that if it were "as advertised", there were no questions to ask, so I threw a pair of Festiva license plates in the car and went down there post-haste.

I was amazed when I saw it - as mentioned, it didn't even look like it had been sat in. According to the owner, it was originally bought by a Mead Corporation executive and kept in his garage and only driven when he was in the country, which wasn't often. When he died, the family knew that "Corvette Dave" was interested in it and called him. The only place he drove it was to Raleigh to the "madness" event every year, and the plaques and trophies that came with it (along with orginal window stickers and receipts) prove it.

He was ready to sell, put up the Email, and now it's on the road. It was by NO means the highest-priced Festiva I've seen - not to be too specific, but slightly north of $2k.

There's always the thing about "It'll only be original once" and maybe it should be parked and shown; I do feel a little pang about driving it - I've put 2000 miles on it since November. But I believe that these cars are for driving - I enjoy driving this one, it's cheap to run, and other Festiva owners and I wave frantically to each other when we pass each other in town or on the highway!

If it lasts as long as the red one, it'll probably outlast me!
