  • I think I want to own one now...

Ok, about 3 years ago there was this guy fixing up a ford festiva at work. I had a mazda 323 w/ BP engine and nitrous on it. He was asking me for my old stock sohc motor, I asked him why he wants that sohc its so slow. He said that if he had it on his festiva he could break in to low 15's to high 14's easy w/ the stock 323 engine (91-94 323 year).

Yesterday I was checking out this site where they built a festiva w/ stock b6t motor and running 12.78 sec. 1/4 mile time. I was like what the?
Anyways, don't get me wrong guys but the festiva is just ugly lookin' car IF ITS NOT BEEN WORKED ON meaning no body work. I saw the...I guess it was a european body kit. W/ that, the car looks sick and w/ 13"-14" deep dish and slammed the car is just sick lookin'.

Since yesterday I 've been trying to sign in this site but for some reason I couldn't...

Anyhow, here's my questions if I do get one...
-if I was to use just the stock BP motor from a protege LX what mods do I have to do? Do I need to custom make my own mounts, headers, intake, wiring,ECU, etc...
-I live in Cali so what do I have to do w/ the smog, since Im gonna be using a mazda motor on a ford body to keep it legit?
-the brakes, what mod can I use to get a better braking power. Is there and upgrade for this?

Can any of you guys show me the best lookin' festiva you've seen on the web. thanks...
I never thought I'd actually look at this site...nice lil rockets you guys got here.

if you live in the bay area i would try to get in touch with Mextiva. he is the one that ran a 12.7 1/4 mile with the b6t swap. He lives there too so i would definitely try to talk to him. If you really want to turn your festiva into a race car or some thing that moves right a long i suggest a b6t with g25mr swap, BPT with g25mr swap or at least a BP engine swap. Doing other than that helps there is no doubt about that but if you are going to buy a festiva to make fast those are your best options IMO.

for all of those swaps you will need to make your own mounts (harder than sounds but still not easy), unless you go b6t then FMS (festiva motor sport) makes engine mounts to bolt in the b6t. electrical you need to splice, and solder some wires but nothing to crazy. The swap it self is not TO hard if you have an idea of wtf you are doing. If you done (like me) it makes it a little more challenging. There is no doubt there are some very nice looking festiva's and there are some very ugly ones. Good luck make sure to post if you have and questions. BTW welcome to FF.com and hope you come to FF06'!

Every car I have owned has had a turbo in it, until I bought this latest festiva.. I plan to fix that though.

i dont agree at all that festiva are Ugly in stock form. look at some of the pics in the gallery. they look nice with the body kits, but i like them as well w/o. i do think the rear spoiler adds to its good looks though.

brian has a great looking car, but many of the stock festivas really turn my head here also. its a matter of preference. is all. but using the "U" word is a no no.. we love our cars here.

pick one? for keeps matt...im just dreaming again  i like both your cars that would be a hard choice.

WoW! I can't believe they make TEINS coilover on this car. Man, they didn't even had that choice on my 323. ( I think ).

About the engine swap. Well, I love the BP motors reliability and how cheap I can get it at the junkyard ($70 if its 50% off) and there's so many of them at the yard to choose from so Im definitely going to get another BP motor.

On this site I saw a car that they have to cut the firewall so that the intake manifold would be able to fit on the engine bay. Is this the mod that I would have to do just so I can have that BP fit perfect in there? Or will it be a straight swap where I dont need to do any crazy modification to get the motor to fit in there.

I have a set of Teins on my car! To install the BP with the Festiva tranny you will have to clearance the firewall, I think if you use the G25MR tranny it will fit without cutting the firewall, but you will have to make all your motor/tranny mounts. See Mattswabb's cardomain pages for information on this.

G25MR tranny? which car should I get this from and what year?
I read somthing about the hydrolic and cable clutch. I'm thinking Festiva came w/ a cable clutch but do I have to swap it to hydrolic clutch?

The Capri XR2 came with a cable operated G25MR tranny, you would need the axels from the Capri too.
