  • Name that part!

Okay, here is a chance to showoff your great Festiva knowledge!

I have this part name request on another thread (Festiva Down!), but not everyone is seeing it there?
    So far no definite answers.

Here is the part. What is the 2 prong connector at the bottm of the radiator? FYI, it is an 88 carbed Festy.

Post your Festiva or Aspire repair and maintenance issues. - USE THIS FORUM FOR ANY TECHNICAL RELATED POST (IE. How do I change my oil?, How to remove axle from tranny?, etc)

edit: there's a more detailed thread out there, which explains it's purpose. I'll see if i can find it.

So I assume I have the temp switch in the t-stat housing, coolant sensor on the block, AND a 3rd "radiator temp sensor" in the radiator?

And just for all those who might wonder....the new radiators without the sensor does work just fine, at least it is working in mine.

It seems they only make ONE radiator for our Festy's, and is made to cover all apps: Auto or manual. Just have to do without the sensor in the radiator I guess.

Oh...Thanks to all you guys for the info!

I have that OEM switch. I never installed it in my rad. I guess I will just sell it since I don't have a computer.

All the replacements I've ever bought have had a plastic plug in place of that sensor. Just remove the plastic plug, screw in the sensor and you're good to go!
            No festiva for me ATM...

Is it a switch or just a sensor? Might not be so bad to know what the rad temp is, especially for the turbo and BP swappers.

According to Ford in the 1998 EVTM pg 31 quote ... "Engine Coolant Temperature Switch" - "detects radiator temperatures and signals the ECA when temperatures are 62.2º (17ºC) The schematic on page 37 of the same manual shows it as a switch with the green wire going to pin 1L of the ECA and the black going to ground. It is used for control of the Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) Heater (Electronic fuel Evaporator [EFE]) the heater under your carb for cold run emissions compliance ... not used on EFI.
Hope this helps. I replaced the radiator in my '88 VIN#30 and just left the wires off.
Are there diagrams on this website?

Well I dont have the PTC or EFE any longer. I swapped to a Weber a couple years ago and now have a B6 swapped into it, with the Weber.
Good info to know anyway! My new radiator dont have a place for the switch/sensor on the radiator, not even a plug to remove to install one.
Obviously I dont need one on my radiator as it will do nothing now.
