timing cover

has anyone tried to make a metal top timing belt cover?
i may try this summer and was thinking of cutting the plastic off the front of one then taking some aluminum and forming the front to match the old one and screwing it to the remainder of the cover. i may drill 2 sight holes to line up timing marks on cam pulley.
