  • NEW ADDITION. 92 5SPD GL (plus an interesting story with pics)

I picked up a 92 5spd GL yesterday, pretty clean little car just needs a VAF. A few mods have been done to it but nothing major. The car was about 80 miles away from my house and on the way back home it blew a right rear tire. There is no telling when i blew the tire, so I pull over to check everything out, at this point I am about 36 miles away from home. There was no spare tire in the car or jack, I thought about putting a front tire on the rear but I would have never been able to get it back on the tow dolly. I scratched my head hmmmmmm got back in the truck and drove 70mph down I-85 for 36 miles....fun times

    92 5spd GL

When I arrived in my driveway (didn't mess anything up besides the tire :highly_amused

I also installed a Ford Escort GT interior light. Purchased a 6000K LED light for it. Instrument panel LED's just came in yesterday too.

Nice find! Need a VAF? I have a couple of good ones pulled from running cars during BP swaps. I can bring to the meet this weekend, I owe you more than an ECU for those hubs you're bringing anyway.
              No festiva for me ATM...

Kevin I'm running 165/60/14 - Only 1" wider then stock. OAH is the same though so fuel economy wouldn't change

Purchased from Holiday Tire in High Point on Greensboro Road, right off of the 311 Bypass. They were the only ones I could get that size tire.

30+ miles on a blown tire?

                        Too friggin' funny!

On the plus side, now we know that running flat on a stock Festiva tire for a few miles is not that big a deal, right?

We know that running for 36 miles at around 70mph with a rear flat on a steel 12" wheel while on a dolly should not hurt too much, if at all. That should work for off a dolly too, since the raised front end puts a tad more weight on the rear wheels (so off a dolly it would be a bit lighter back there).

A flat on the front may be a different story.
