  • [not festiva] What is this called?

I've looked through pages and pages of google images and other sorts to find out what this part is called. It's on my '83 ranger. I was just readjusting the idle for it when I noticed that this spews out gas every time I hit the accelerator.

    This is on a Carb'd 6cyl 2.8l 1983 Ford Ranger

There is a little hole at the bottom of this contraption that drips out gas every time I give it some accel. I'm assuming it needs to be replaced. Can anybody help me out?

    Here is a picture:

    Thanks!

    Accelerator pump.
Gives some extra gas to the carb if you accelerate hard.

I rebuilt an old Autolite carb for a 71 F250 I used to have and if I remember correctly there's a rubber diaphragm in there. It might have a hole in it.

You mean to tell me that there is a 2.8 ford V6 still running?!
The 2.9 from the same era was super durable. 250K was common. But I remember loads of 70-80k mile dead 2.8 stories.

I have the 2.9L V6 (fuel injected) in my 90 Ranger and that baby has 280k miles on it. Shes been parked for a while but I guarantee that I could go out back throw a battery in it and it would fire right up. I love that little truck!

          The diaphram only is

Be careful not to strip or break those screws, soak them with PB a day ahead!
Inside there is a spring and a check valve made of soft rubbery stuff. Remove the cover slowly so that you can observe the spring orientation and to not damage the check valve. Clean up the cover you removed and make sure it is not warped.

Might not be a bad idea to replace that fuel filter once every ten years or so
