  • Sea air tough on undersides of things from passenger compartment on '91 L Festiva...

A couple days ago, I'd been noticing the excellent condition of a pair of dollar store compact disc visor mount carriers, held on the tops of the two windshield visors in what currently has been called "Fartstiva" a few times, of not unkind familiarity lately;* while the third identical such cd carrier which faces downward, is considerably deteriorated-the fabric of the individual sleeves for cds all flaking away; which had been and remains on the two carriers upward facing, a lacy type black mesh of some sort of fabric-seemingly tough enough for such duty.

This got me curious about the source of such deterioration of that plastic on the downward facing compact disc carrier; so I got to looking at the dome light which hasn't worked for years. This shows signs of considerable corrosion on various metal parts conducting electricity; though cleaning that up with a pen knife hadn't brought back the function of the dome light.

The Festiva and I became boon companions June of '99, as me the second owner was the story I got told at least-from a jet helicopter mechanic in the Coast Guard selling me the thing at their home in the official Coast Guard housing in town; in Eureka, CA where for instance, of the ten available rabbit ears accessible television stations; few seeming on occasion, are the times all are functional together: Because of the corrosiveness of the salt air on the Pacific coast there, is what I've been told.

Festiva & me moved here to Bellingham from Eureka where I'd been nearly a dozen years from April of '96, all the first half of '08; which though not on the ocean is a major seaport in Puget Sound as southern terminus of the Alaska ferries also traditional home of sail power whaling ship captains from the eighteen nineties, on the far eastern side of this large inland body of salt water. With only one rabbit ears television station to judge by; this one is flakey enough, so I'm imagining the salt air phenomena continues here, while perhaps not quite as intense as in Eureka?

The driver's seat adjustment hasn't been too friendly either; despite having the whole seat & mechanism out to get that functional awhile, soon stuck in one place again. No sign of sea air corrosiveness; though a long time since I was looking, so perhaps I've forgotten? Doubtful; though one never knows until carefully confirmed...

*Imagining Hugo Chavez enjoying some time at the wheel; who has gotten himself a "buy" from Socialist doctors in Cuba, to do other things though officially kaput. I've some presidential cachet myself; president of my high school Latin club, as a sophomore with a C passing grade in class: Obviously, some political clout involved.

I wonder if Fidel Castro who'd tried out for the Yankees as a pitcher, followed Fernando Valenzuela; while he was pitching for the Dodgers at Chavez Ravine?
