Just wondering what exactly is the plastic container that has a port on the intake tube next to the pcv valve?

It's called a Hemholtz resonator. They can be used to quiet the intake noise...but they are sometimes used to eliminate undesired air flow wave frequencies that can develop in the intake ducting at certain RPMs. These frequencies can cause the air flow to stall out and actually hurt performance. Some cars have multiple resonators, depending on the design of the intake system. Not sure if the ones on our Festies are for noise cancellation or air flow, but many have removed them with no appearant ill effect.Brian
