  • need help from the Forum..... Sticky related

ok, so lately i'e seen several posts asking what can be swapped/modded to fit on our cars.

this is the thread where we compile the list of parts and year, make, model that will translate to us (the festiva)

here's what i'd like to see:

Part name, from *year *make *model
    hints for ease of installation
requirements for fitment (mods, special instructions, tools, etc.), additional parts required for installation of said part.

    i'll give an example:

Map light, from '91-96 Ford Escort LX or GT
grab a section of donor harness for cleaner installation.
remove factory dome light (2 philips screws under lense), snip factory plug and wire in pigtail removed from donor, clearance headliner for proper fitment (88-89 requires 2 simple cuts in liner to fold material out of the way, 90-93 requires removal of some material for a flush fit), install using one original hole and one alternate hole in factory position.

doing this will make life easier for MANY members and i can make the sticky modifiable and i'll make it seperated by area of vehicle (interior, exterior, engine, suspention).

hmmmmmm so i'll review each entry and PM the writer if any questions arrise before locking it away for the sticky thread.

    Good idea Arty!

My post will be on Miata wheels fitting Aspire swapped Festivas (or Aspires, of course).

All stock Miata wheels in the 14" sizing are perfect for Festivas because of the following:

-the offset is the same as used on our cars (+45mm)
    -the sizes are either 14 X 5.5" wide (Daisies) or 14 X 6"
-all Miata wheels are pretty light weight, ranging from around 10 pounds for the BBS to 12.7 pounds for the '99+ (only the steel 14 X 5.5" Miata wheels are kinda heavy at 18# each)
-hub fitment is EXACT; no need to worry about this; slam 'em on and go!
-factory made high quality (usually made by Enkei)
-can be had pretty cheap if you look around and/or wait for a "deal" (the most I paid was $125 for '99+; the cheapest was $60 for solid spokes; and I paid $80 for my Daisies)

    Replacement doughnuts:

For those of you who want newer spares than your old Aspire doughnuts, you can use Kia Rio '01 doughnuts. Exact size. Exact hubcentric fit. I haven't checked, but later Rio doughnuts will probably work as well. This gives us spare tires that are at least four years newer than the Aspire spares.

One more thing: If you have done the Aspire suspension swap and didn't change out your Festiva doughnut, you're gonna get a rude surprise if you have a flat tire and need it! Just saying...

ok Karl, so will the 15" rims fit as well? what year range are we talking (90-02?, all years?) what tire size would you recomend for fitment (i'd think 165/60, but there'smore than one).

it'd help me greatly if the previously mentioned format be maintained.

Arty, I only mentioned the 14" wheels since they're lighter and I've only mounted them for real (the '99+s on Aqua with those huge 205/55-14 Victoracers).

As for tire sizes, here is a short list of 14s:

        165/55
        165/60
        165/65
        175/60
        185/55
        185/60
        195/45

I know several folks have run the common Miata 185/60-14s on their Festivas, and this size represents the upper limit I'd generally recommend. This would be with either coilovers or the Aspire spec rear struts (currently available from Monroe but not KYB).

As for lug bolts, you'll also need longer ones. They are available for VW and BMW applications on ebay and will be around 1/4" longer than stock Festiva/Aspire/Rio bolts for better engagement with the front hub threads when going to alloy wheels.

Sorry if my thoughts are messy here.
