  • how to improve mpg's

guys besides a K&N and perhaps flowmaster 50 series muffler, and keeping the tires psi high.. what else could some other basic/simple bolts be for increased mpgs?..

Sure has been a lot of interest in this lately. The biggest improvement is from the nut behind the wheel. Take care of proper maintenance. Use 0w20 synthetic in engine and trans, I love it. The biggest is to employ hyper mile techniques. Add some Aero improvements. Practise to the point to where you are contributing to hyper mile techniques.

A muffler and air filter are NOT gonna do anything for mpg.

Look at mikeyjd postings he has the highest MPG for a festiva I've seen.
Then do some reading, most of us are not going to spoon feed you.

I agree that adjusting your driving habits can get you more than 50% epa projection mileage with a festiva. putting the 0w20 in my car has had a noticeably positive affect on my mileage.

Very true. Although I believe you can get a slight performance advantage with less restricted air flow from the muffler.

Oh suuure. Next you're gonna claim that flame decals do not increase HP.

That list by Mikey is about the best list we have for both techniques and modifications, and its current information!

The field of hypermiling is wide open, there are so many things that have not been tried yet.
Its up to us because car companies, oil companies and our Guv are all in cahoots to restrict this area of better mpg as much as possible. The taxes from fuel and those getting fuel are a huge incoming budget for governments. For that reason they are loathe to double fuel mileage without doubling the cars on the road. Years ago people dabbling in this field with big claims for modifications and even patents claimed mostly disappeared or were found dead. I think this area of expertise is a lot safer now and wide open!!
