  • So my festy ran out of gas today

I was running a lot of errands and was real busy. All of a sudden it starts sputtering and it died right in the middle of a busy ass street. My mom was with me and so she pushed it off to the side and we had to walk like 10 blocks to get gas. It sucked. After we got gas in it it took awhile for the gas to work it's was back to the carb. After like trying to start it for 30 secs it started and ran fine.

I ran out of gas once when I first bought the blue (then red) car. It said a little under 1/4 tank and I figured "two gallons, that ought to take me about 80 more miles"... wrong! I drove for 10 more mins and ran out. Just under 1/4 tank. Took me a while to realize it too... popped the cluster apart when I got home and bent the needle back up so I would know when I was at E . Hasn't happened since *fingers crossed*
          No festiva for me ATM...

I've run out of gas a few times, due in part to a defective gas gauge...

                The other part was carelessness.

She told me to stay in the car since on my drivers side there were cars traveling at about 40 MPH and she only had to push about 10 feet and the car is light compared to others.

Next time just drive by a gas station. The fumes will get you a few more miles. We have quite a few gas stations on the way to work and if the traffic is right I don't have to fill up for 3 weeks.

I have never run a Festy out of gas. There were a couple times I had come close though! @@. I can allow it to get into the red part and still be safe... but that was on the way home, and I was stretching it cause I was in a hurry. I fill up when I get around 1/8th of a tank. I have owned a few old VWs in my time, and have come to distrust the gas gauge readings. I actually used to carry an "Oh Shit" can in my trunk.

its alot worse when u got a v8. thank god i ran out right next to a gas station.
it'll do the 1/8 in 13.7, spin tires, and make all my drunk buddies giggle.

I had this happen 2 times... Luckily both times I never ran completely out of gas, just stumbled a lot...

First time was going up a mountain on my way home from work. Got almost to the top when it started jerking. Hit the top and coasted down the rest into a gas station...

Second time was on I-81 (major highway in PA) in the passing lane... I almost had an 18-wheeler in my back seat area....

OK, now i have to chime in:

every time you run out of fuel,
you cut down the life expectancy of your fuel pump down

on the fuel injected pumps: the fuel running through it keeps the electric fuel pump cool

and on the carb'd mechanical fuel pumps the fuel keeps the rubber diaphragm lubricated

A little tip, keep 2 or 3 bottles of cheap gas line antifreeze in the hatch. It will get you a couple miles if you run out. It's worked for me
