Question about differences in A/C systems

I am curious, I tried to search for the info here, but it is so convoluted that it is just impossible to sift through.

What are the differences in a/c systems?

I know there is Dealer, and Factory, but other than that I don't know. I know the factory compressors were somethingDenso I don't remember the name, that is the particular system I have.

Do both systems use idler pulleys? Do some years of systems don't?

I have noticed a number of differences.

Dealer ac traits;
Relays above passenger strut tower

Aluminum? Idler pulley bracket it requires tightening the pullywith awrench and locking it in place with another wrench.

The condenser has no little box on top of it

On the box behind the glove box the temp of the air can be adjusted with a lever.


Factory ac traits

Relays behind the drivers headlight(i think)

Idler pulley is cast iron and is adjusted with a 10? Mm socket.

Condenser has a little black box on it

To adjust the temp of the air it uses a small screw and not a lever.


There are probally way more than this but these are pretty simple to look at and determine what system you have.

Just thought I'd ask because I bought what was supposedly a complete a/c system, and he didn't include a idler pulley or bracket for it.

It may have had something different if he hadpower steering. I have not seen a festy with air and ps, or any festy with ps for that matter.

Obviously, you have not visited me in Toronto.

If the lines to the drier are routed around the battery, then that is the extremely rare P/S, A/C combo Festiva.

I have the even rarer P/S, A/C, cruise combo.

Nah, the line to the drier goes toward the airflow sensor. Though I got a question, where does it exactly go? Underneath the airbox?

I am slowly getting piece by piece of the a/c system in.
