  • how much hp is lost in a festy b3 over the years?

I'm just cuerious about this but I been watching top gear a lot (best show ever) and they bring up all the time how much hp is lost on older cars. And on average the 20 year old cars lost about 2 to 5 hp a year for bmw's and jag's and mustang's. Soo for a 20 year old festiva that allready starts out at 63hp how much is left after all the years if they are still stock? Cuz even if they loose only pne hp a year that's a lot of power loss

I suspect that an engine would blow a lot of smoke by the time the power output dropped by 25% (ie 45hp in a B3). Burnt valves and worn out rings, to me, are the real culprit.

Just dont worry about it and rebuild a BP and swap it in! Heck, if it runs good already just throw it in with no rebuild and youll still see a MAJOR difference

i'm thinking more along the lines of .25Hp per year if you want to go that route. that's a 5hp loss total over 20 years and that's a noticeable drop (or gain) in power in our cars.

i have several engines over 250k and they don't feel any different than the engines with half that.

I suppose you could always claim that the displacement is increasing over time due to wear. Honest officer; the bore wore out all the way to 1.8 litre so I had to put another cam on and a bunch of extra valves to harness all that extra energy.

You need to throw some alcohol into that thing... With cool fuel you would probably hit 250 easy! Bottom end wouldn't blow too fast at that level...

Do you ever go our to Mission? Would love a chance to see your car in person!

I can sit and watch my car all day in the driveway its not as much fun thow as showing it off ( when it was rinning or when it will be running next) butt sence I don't have to worry to much about loosing hp what's an easy way to gain it on a escort gt motor in my car?

Mike he has got Tims old BP car. We should have a mini meet!

In regards to the hp loss. I have 150k miles on the original motor and still have 185 comp. across all cylinders. I think with good maintenance hp loss should be very minimal over the years.
