  • new to the festiva scene...

Whats up everyone. Just wanted to say hello, I started drag racing VW's 10 years ago and then got into Honda world. I still race a Honda drag car, but a friend and I are building street/strip festiva projects now. Should be good times.

We picked up the first car for my buddy last week(im still looking). The plans are BPT swaps, different turbos, our own manifold designs and a little weight reduction. Looking forward to information you all have to offer.

Thanks for the welcome. I wish I could say the cars would be done soon...but who knows...i cant even find a decent one to buy yet. My buddy and I are both engineering students so money can get a little tight but we will be around soon...project EVO eater has begin

As far as the Festiva Festival...we both plan to make the trip in 2007. Both cars should be done by then and will be in desperate need of a road trip.

                Welcome to the board!

I've got some suggestions for you, since your building an all our race car. The engine bay in the festiva is very tight. With the big transmission and the DOHC engines, you're not left with very much room to mount your big ass turbo you have there. So, what to do. You've got a big turbo, not enough space, need an assload of power, and have the knowledge (being an engineering student like me ). What should you do... swap in a rotary! A Mazda 13B with a streetable port and your turbo will be able to produce enough power to make 5th gear turn into nothing more then a smoke machine on wheels.

There are a few problems that have to be worked out first, mainly the location of the passenger side axle shaft in relation to the exhaust ports. Since you are making a custom manifold anyway, and would need an adapter plate between the transmission and engine, this is not that big of an obstacle. Careful positioning of the engine and design of the manifold should solve this problem. The turbo would have to be mounted a significant distance away from the exhaust ports because there is no way you could stuff it between the engine and firewall. I'm ranting, I'll stop now...

I just finished dimensioning a 13B bellhousing pattern for a school project using a brand new Mitutoyo CMM... Because I want to see this done so bad I'm going to do anything I can to help out given my limited resources and location. I could send you dimensions for the bellhousing if you want, or even create an adaptor plate in any solid modelling program (CATIA, Solid Edge, Inventor, Etc)... even a CNC program in MasterCAM if required. Let me know... 8)

I thought about the rotary idea, but I am pretty dead set on a piston engine. The BPT will be quick and we can make the engine/transmission combo work.

Maybe someday a 13B would be fun, but not at the moment

I have been dreaming of a rotory powered festy too, you can beat that snowmobile sound and 13k redline!, tranny adapter seems like the biggest issue.

While at RS, I them scan a Festiva exterior by a giant Mituyoyo CMM, which would accomodate full car bodyshells.

Leitz is good too, any experience on those yet?
