  • Escort ZX2 for donor parts?

I flogged a 98 ZX2 as a work car for a few years. rust prevents its passing inspection so its time to scrap. 5 spd. with all options. still runs great and this was a fun, fast car. my question is are there any parts from this car useful for festiva upgrades that I might remove before I call the wrecker.

Did some research, looks like the motor and tranny are not compatible. I suspect the front brakes will not be either; by then Ford/Mazda had moved on to other designs.

        WRONG

The tranny is a G series, if the engine will fit in a Festiva engine bay, then it's a possible swap

I personally want to get my hands on a ZX2 tranny because I want the internal gear set

        1988 323 GT - B6T Powered

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

I saw that the tranny was a G5, but still suspect that the motor won't just bolt up to an E or F tranny. Do you know whether it will or not?

Are you suggesting a zetec swap? Not sure what the benefit would be over a bp really. Maybe aftermarket support?

Tom, my KL won't bolt to an E or F trans either, it'll only bolt to the stock KL trans but because it's a G series, that's what makes it interchangeable

I never said the Zetec is better then a BP, I just said its a possible swap if someone wanted to be different

X2 I've also heard rumors of interchangeability of internals. I've been looking around for one at the yard to dissect and compare

^^the Zx2 internals won't swap into the B bell housing G series though.... The later G series (KL, Zetec, and the Kia sephia trans) had a thicker ring/pinion gear

Dangit! I was hoping we could use some of the Ford Racing stuff for the ZX2 tranny in our G's.

Oh well....on to plan B

What does Ford racing have? I'm sure it could still be useful to our G tranny's

I believe they offered a LSD at one time.

But I'm also thinking like it was for the MTX-75 and many of the Focus guys were calling those glass and switching in another Focus transmission into their SVT Focuses(?) (Foci?)

I'll have to go back and look and get all the details...but I'm pretty sure there was another option for the LSD.

True, but it's always good to have options too

Yeah, I was focusing on whether you could use the engine or tranny separately with trannies or engines we have, but the Zetec motor only goes with its specific G tranny, and we can't use that tranny with a B6D or BP apparently.
