  • engine problem questions before I buy

B6T Blown head gasket and bad water pump. What are some of the possible reasons and what are some of the possible negatives (future $$$ to fix it)?

Is head probably still good? could it have hurt block, or anything else down there?

Or do I stay away from it? Was planning on rebuilding completely anyway but not if needs new head and more money than worth it to get her going again.

This is all the info available.

If "bad water pump" means leaking water pump, you might want to stay away from it. The engine was probably run hot. If the head gasket is blown between 2 adjacent cylinders and with all the extra fire power being pumped in by the turbo, the head could have part of the metal between the cylinders burned away. I had a NA engine do that and it would have had to have about 1/8" milled off the head to clean it up.
    You gonna race that thing?
