  • Parts?

All- I have been trying to source an ignition switch cylinder, and all I have found that say they are compatible with my 1990 Festiva aren't. I cannot turn the key at all. Help!

    Read these:

Then place a [WTB] for an ignition switch.

You might also want to review a few threads about how to remove the switch from the steering column.
That will save much pain and suffering on your part.

Also, please edit your profile and put your location in, someone might be just down the street from you and could lend a hand.

cylinder, not switch John. IIRC an early 323 and protege cylinder should get you close.

Switch/cylinder, it's the thing that the key goes into to start the car.
Easier just to swap out an "new to him" from a festiva!

not quite, seperate parts, one drives the power to the car, the other locks and unlocks the column. but yes a new to him from parts festy would work just as well.

Are you sure that it is not the steering wheel locking mechanism that is preventing your key from turning? Is the steering wheel locked or will it turn?
If it is locked, have you tried wiggling the wheel and trying to turn the key at the same time?
If you get a new cylinder, you will have to use your current key on the doors and hatch (unless you get lucky and get a matching one).
I have a used cylinder with the key that I paid $9 for at LKQ last year. It works OK but the key is very loose in the cylinder one you unlock it.
It will probably work OK for you. You can have it for the $9 that I paid for it plus shipping if you want.
If you haven't removed your current cylinder to see if the steering locking mechanism is the problem, do this first.
It may have gotten worn and has an edge on it that is catching. PM me if interested in my cylinder.
