  • help... bushings question

I thought I read everything first.. got the shifter rods off in the middle of replacing bushings. One of the bolts seams not to have a head.. its round by design. How do you replace the bushings? See the photo. And second question is this supossed to look bent .. the end which connects to the shifter itself?

The bushing end with the round head, if its not loose, you can leave as is. If it is loose, saw or drill or grind the head off, and replace with a bolt and a NYLOCK type nut. Nylock is a locknut that has a plastic lock incorperated into it. The plastic is tight on the threads and prevents the nut from coming loose.

The bent ears on the other end just need some straightening, and it'll be fine

Is it worth the effort to cut bolts off now. There currently is nothing left of any type of bushing... thanks for you time And effort with me. Read many bushing threads.. thought I knew everything..

I've replaced that with a stainless shoulder bolt, nylon washers and a nyloc nut. I've also felt a shifter with only the accessible bushings replaced. I'll suggest it's not worth the hassle. Some play is ok, I think. It's up to you. Also, the bar looks normal, or close. If it doesn't line up one way, flip it around and try the other.

AWESOME!!! Complete Success ... I am going to like this a lot.. Went from about 6 inches of slop to little.. Very hard to get into first and fifth.. WOW! major difference.. Next weekend comes the red short shifter from ebay.. I will cut the bolts off then and replace with new ones.. I can't wait, wonder how much more slop will be removed with the short shifter... THANKS everyone..

            Loving this car!
