The Z5 1.5L DOHC came in 1995 to 2000-something Proteges. I'd like to put one in an Aspire or Festiva someday. It seems to me that it would make a great compromise between fuel economy and performance, due to its 97 or so hp and more modern head & intake design.
I bet it would rival a good (stock) B3 setup but with more power than a plain old B6.

I would think a lot of this stuff could adapt to a Festy but the real issue is wiring and electronics. I had access to a freebie absurdly low mile 1.6 twin cam 5 speed from a 98 Protege last winter but the more I stared at the wiring and harness issues the less enthusiastic I became. Devoting a couple of hundred hours towards creating a $1500 car ($500 more than when you started) is a big issue. If someone with lots of time and inclination on their hands could pull this off and do a comprehensive writeup I would imagine you'd see a few swaps out there. The whole idea of being able to plug-in diagnostic your own car is kinda neat though.
