  • NGK Plug Wires

I can't seem to find NGK brand plug wires for my 93 Festy. Rockauto isn't showing any for a 93 or a 90. Any ideas where to find a good set of plug wires? Maybe I need other search parameters, what other vehicle uses similar wires? I need a long coil wire, and I can't remember which one I used when I swapped, so maybe I should be looking for mercury tracer plug wires?

I would also settle for the red spark plug wires if anyone can tell me what brand that is. I just don't want stock wires, I want some thicker core current carriers.

/edit, just looked and they don't have NGK's for 89 tracers either. I wonder if the b8 wires are what I need to be looking for? Help pls..

94 Mazda protege sohc 1.8, they have NGK's and pic looks like it might work, anybody ever tried them? Part number 9786 alternative #zx19......also same part number for a 93 mx3 w/ sohc 1.6

I bought Streetfire build your own at AZ a month ago. I bought the 8mm, and found out later they had 8.5 available. Cut carefully, and for 50 bucks, get two sets for the price of one! You do have to reuse coil boots for the second set though

      I'd get these, if I were me ... ?

Ya really cant get a better wire. The wire and engine side boots are all silicone, and molded in one piece. I have them on the B6 in red car. Out last most any other wire i've tried. I REALLY like them!

Why can I get mid 40s mpg and I'm using old mis-matched wires picked from our 55gal barrel of stock?

Maybe just the 1/4 mile runners need all they can get?

I've never bought a set in my life. We kept all wires from the old cars we had crushed.

I don't know if I can get substantial mpg gain spending $40+ on a set.

Advance shows them available as "ship to home" and Rock shows them in stock. Do a search for part # 8157, that's for an 88 323.

Advance Auto has some on their webpage under 'Festiva' but they ARE NOT the right part. They are for a Porche 944 and the coil wire is way too short.

Part #9786 is the right one!

I have them on my '90 and they fit just right, added a bit of power, too. I think they're for a '92 Protege.

                  Well that's kinda odd.

Looks like part # 9786 is for:

                  FORD ASPIRE (1994 - 1997)
                  MAZDA 323 (1990 - 1995)
                  MAZDA MX-3 (1992 - 1993)
                  MAZDA PROTEGE (1990 - 1994)

And part # 8157 is for:

                  MAZDA 323 (1986 - 1989)

9786 looks to have a longer coil wire so go with that one. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused with the 8157 # :nightmare:

                    Civic ones work fine.
                    NGK part #8006
                    NGW8006_1.jpg

That big boot can be easily trimmed off and the inner part fits over the Festiva dist cap. Loosely, but it fits. Use a cut off old stock center wire boot to take up the slop.
They're kinda long, but CHEAP and work fine. These are the best pics I have of them installed ATM.

Good stuff here guys, I meant to measure my coil wire today and never got around to it, kinda stuck at work now.

If you click enough 'more info' links there's usually one that just has lengths in mm or inches, so ill measure a couple wires and see which ones will be closest and probably go with those.

It's weird to me that some of these part numbers are interchanging with aspire wire numbers, aspires don't have/use a coil wire!

On my way home this morning the car kept missing and sort of jarring bad when cruising, it was extremely foggy out. On the way to work today it didn't hiccup at all. Maybe the moisture was getting to that bared end wire right on the coil?

^Heh. I hate dirty bays. Totally worth the quarters or saving up for a pressure washer. I still have crud that hasn't come off yet. Baby steps.

Achtung! aspires don't HAVE A COIL WIRE..... and IIRC neither do the Proteges (year dependant), so the #9786 won't work on a Festy unless it has an extranious wire...
