  • 1991 with 277,000 miles....

I found a GL automatic with a/c for a $1000. I'm getting ready to drive 145 miles to look at it.

With the high miles on it, is it worth it? ?

The engine sounds like its clacking on video.

    Response asap please.

    Thanks!

High miles = lower price than $1K. Three-speed auto = poor gas mileage on hwy. Better for a city car.

Clacking could just be a stuck lifter; not a deal-killer. Try to evaluate what the source of the noise is when you get there.

It isn't for him, but his girlfriend. That is why it is an Auto.

Clacking you hear over the phone may just be lifters, but phones are weird, they can enhance some sounds and don't pick up others, especially over a cheap cell phone that the seller could have been using.

As long as it isn't rusted out, remember check rear axle mounts, don't want a repeat of your car. If you do pick it up, the first thing I would do is change the transmission fluid and filter, along with all the other typical things you should do to a car when you first buy one.

He would not budge under 1000 so I declined. The a/c did work but he could have just filled it 2 days ago.

Good. Didn't sound too great, anywho.

Sorry you had to drive 290mi roundtrip for him, though.

Better than 290miles, THEN paying $1k for it just to be a money pit.
