  • B3 in a 94 Miata 42 MPG

Guy puts a B3 in a 94 Miata - gets average 42-44.5 mpg without trying
I ran across this on one of the Miata forums.
It's a couple years old, but I got a kick out of reading it.

Safety Guy, did you ever get that 2 cylinder Festiva sorted out?

I ask the same question when I see what some of the guys do to their Festivas here. :whip2: Miatas don't get great mileage in stock form. I would assume he doesn't want a Festiva and loves Miatas and wants better MPG.

Because an open top RWD is still fun when it's only got 60 horses pulling it around, and spending all your money on fuel sucks.
Also, dude who built it is a semi-regular here.

To ask why is forbidden. We do not question to what drummer a person marches. ;-)

One might as well ask why you have three 23-year-old clown cars.

Makes you wonder if the 1.5 dohc 95-98 protege would be a good replacement when available b6d are high mileage. They are little more compression ratio and mileage friendly port design. City economy would jump up that's for sure.

I bet he could do wonders for his MPG by severely lightening the drivetrain. It's WAY overbuilt for the power it has now.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

For anyone thinking about this swap, I read recently that there was a problem with the valve springs breaking in the 1995 1.5 cars.

Bummer. Just that model year? I can find these engines delivered to my door for 300 cash, no puling myself or anything. Delivers to a residence not even a shop with dock

Right, just that year. They fixed the problem for 1996.
