Matt (Zoom Zoom) came up to give a hand in yanking it out of the ole' XR2 this evening. We had a good time talking Festiva and took a few pics too. I will post them when I start my build thread. I think he really liked my hood struts. LOL My 5 yr old Nash even braved the cold to help do some wrenching.

I must say that I am excited to finally get this project movin'. Gonna be slow as I am going to be building my garage at the same time. Hopefully a 40x60 but may go smaller so as to afford better foundation. Wanna do block wall instead of pole barn style. IDK though.

Anyway the engine/tranny is out. Time for some degreasing and gameplanning. But first I must part out the leftover XR2 stuff to make room in the current attached garage. Hittin' eBay soon.

    Thanks again Matt.

Hah no problem man glad I could help!!! That thing is gonna be a monster! The Capri was in almost good enough shape to fix but the rust don't stop once it starts, and the corner was ate out pretty good.

Had a blast man we gotta do it again sometime!

I think Indiana has worse rust than Ohio...I've NEVER had any luck with Indiana cars.

Thanks ^^. I'm sure to be asking lots of turbo type questions since I've never even touched a turbo until yesterday, though I did make it to 2nd base with it lol.

OK, dumb question. What's a header panel? Every panel is straight on the car. just some paint peel on some of them. I don't recall any dents on any panels. Oh yeah I got your pm. The parts will be with me at Ohiostiva. You going?

They lay down SO MUCH SALT for just snow dust here.. it's awful.
Every single Festiva I've looked at has had something terminal or just non-existent underbelly here in Indiana. Got super-lucky with the '89. Had it up on a lift a few days ago; ONE SINGLE rust hole to be repaired before winter. Rest of the car still had factory undercoat intact.. even had 1/10th of the original exhaust shielding haha.

If you're buying an older car, look to Kentucky down!

OK, thanks^. Yeah I was looking at that yesterday. Somewhere, a while back, I saw Matt repairing that on a car in one of his threads. It appears to be in PERFECT condition. For that matter you could probably wax it and it'd look like it did back in '91.

From what I recall almost all the body panels and doors were in great shape, the damage was all underneath in the subframe and floor pans. May have been a little on the rocker behind the front driver tire but I could be wrong. If someone was seriously dedicated to these cars it would be worth the time to just fix the rust and drop a new motor in it... If it was a Festiva I would have fixed it!!

Keep that header panel in good shape, I'll show you where to make the cuts to remove it. They're welded on, unfortunately. May also be interested in the fenders but not show how I'd transport them home... Maybe just drive out sans fenders? LOL

Where you guys towing this on I-71 ? one of our Capri guys saw a Festiva towing a red capri...thought this might be you lol
