  • PROTEGE' QUESTION

IF ITS A 94 WITH 16V, WOULDNT THAT BE A BP? The lady selling the car cant tell me anything except its a 5 spd and she said it has "16V" on the engine. I know they came with a B8ME this year. But I'm wondering if it could be a B6 16V? I cant see the car till sunday so its killing me not knowing what it might be.

Ask her what color the mirrors are. If they are body color, it's a BP. If they are black, it's a B8.

The BP is a DOHC 16V, while the B8 is an SOHC 16V, if I remember correctly.

    '91-'94 Protege LX = Body-color mirrors, BP
    '91-'94 Protege DX = Black mirrors, B8

I think the 16V B6s only came on Mazda MX-3s and like cars. Proteges never had a B6 in that year range.

Thanks Joe,I always assumed a B8 was a 8V. But now that you posted I searched and found the info. My guess this Protoge' is a B8 because it doesn't have any options.(she said it was plain Jane) Oh well... sounded to good to be a LX with a BP.

          Impossible.
All BG Proteges had a 1.8 (be it B8 or BP), that's what made them a Protege rather than a 323 (they were more or less the same car otherwise).
