Physical units of energy available from a fuel cannot be changed but you can maintain same or increased power if you use more it! That's why I suggested that LNG or propane had to be 1/2 the price of gasoline in order to have any advantage. Same goes for pure ethanol.
In the same vein if you can achieve 1000 or 1500 more rpm from an engine it will use that much more fuel per unit time if all else is equal.

Yup, I was talking propane because that is what I have experience in.

"CNG compresses the gas to 3,600 psi (some older vehicles were compressed at 2,400 psi). At this compression level, one GGE requires 0.51 cubic feet of space in a CNG tank. So the interior space of a 20 GGE tank is approximately 10 cubic feet (think roughly 42″ wide, 18″ deep, and 18″ tall)."

So according to this calculation, for a 10 GGE using the given tank example, would be half or 21"x18"x18".

This is a tank that is going to be fairly heavy walled if it's going to withstand the pressure plus being kinda bulky.

But let's ignore that for now.

CNG has an alleged octane rating of 130 according to this website I found:

What they don't say is the rating used. Is it motor, research, or an average of the 2 as is standard practice at gas stations in the U.S.?

Says a 10% hit on performance. I would think some of that would be made up if you went with higher compression.

Then you have the national infrastruture of filling stations, or I should say lack of CNG filling stations. (Much like past propane history.)

But, let's simply pretend there ARE filling stations and most of the present gasoline powered cars are now running CNG.

What do you think would happen to the now touted low cost fuel prices? My guess it would go up, possibly to present day gasoline prices. Which would more than likely raise heating costs because of the demand.
