  • BP Engine swap assistance

Ive seen it done thousands of times, im rather keen on a BP swap in my '89 Mazda 121
Was originally planning the BPT but decided a BP would be enough, license restrictions and suchness

On a youtube vid I seen someone used a G Series trans
Im after advice, help etc on what would be best/needed for a complete and successful BP swap, so nothing dies, breaks or shatters with a heavy foot, bad habit of mine
Any specific boxes or things I should use?
Also, in terms of ecu/computer for the engine, wiring and electrics, any advice given will be taken on board
    Thanks in advance

    BP Engine swap assistance

If your car is carbureted then it'll be a little more work... If its an EFI car, you only add two wires to the stock harness, run the BP ECU and VAF and it'll fire up and run perfect

The stock trans with a BP will work but it can't handle any hard launches, G series trans can handle a BP no problem

    1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
    1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Near perfect post. The only thing that would make it better is to say what 2 wires. Not necessarily how, just which ones. Best no nonsense post I have seen in a long while.

Mine isnt EFI so I uave a bunch of work ahead
I figure if I just grab the entire engine and electronics I should have it all (ecu, vaf etc) im handy with electronics and lobe a challenge haha
If I got the BP and already attached manual box, that would fit or no?

Using anything other than the stock transmission requires custom made mounts. There are several threads on here about installing and building the mounts for a "G" series transmission as well as a great article on BP swaps.

From what ive read almost everywhere, the stock 5 speed box will shatter and 'break in half' with a heavy footed driver so I spose custom mounts are the only option
                  =/

If you are "heavy footed" yep you need a better transmission. Preferable a "G" Series. I.E. XR2, 91-96 Escort GT and there's more. Those seem to be the major players for heavy footedness. I broke the stock trans diff in my BP car, power shifting from first to second.

That's how I roll buddy lol

But I didn't say where the two wires go because that info is in the BP swap write-up... Plus the OP said his was an 89 so I automatically assumed carbureted and the two wire info wasn't relevant

Don't forget, even if you keep the stock Festiva trans you still have to make a new engine mount.
                              No festiva for me ATM...
