I'm going to look at and hopefully get a Red 1992 Festiva GL Auto for $200.00 po said it needs an alternator, tires, has an oil leak, back seat missing, and tabs are expired and from the photos it definitely is rust free (how many time has is snowed here in Western Washington!).... good buy? also does the Alternator from the Aspire work in the Festiva? I got one for the Aspire but not the Festiva.....

I would find a way to make it work, even if it meant popping out the terminals and changing the connector. Look at both of them. It should fit since it's the same engine. -
Alt will bolt right up, plugs may be different as Brave mentioned above. You will also need to swap pulleys, the Festiva uses a Vbelt and the Aspire uses a ribbed belt. But I've used just about any alternator from just about an B-series motor on just about any other B-series motor over the years.No festiva for me ATM...Comment

I try to swap the pulley from an aspire alt to a festy alt but the shaft sizes were larger on the aspire alt
so iI had to swap all the pulleys over.Donn

And they all fit fine? That's cool to know. I'd rather a ribbed belt than a V any day.Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

I tried years ago and the shafts were different. Couldn't swap alternator pulleys. Maybe I was doing something wrong?Comment

For that '92, the crank pulley might be either big-nose or small-nose. On all Aspires (and 93 Festys) it's big-nose.90 Festy (Larry)--B6M (Matt D. modified B6 head), header, 5-speed, Capri XR2 front brakes, many other little mods

I heard that SOME late year 92's had the large nose pulley's too. Might want to check yours.
Small nose crank is about 9/16 of an inch and large nose are about 1 1/8 inches I think. I'll go check mine and get back with dimensions, but it is obvious when looked at side by side, which is which.Last edited by drddan; 01-25-2014, 08:26 PM.Dan

Easiest check is the bolt pattern on the pulley. Large nose has a square pattern and a peg and hole that line it up, the small nose has a trapezoidal pattern and a notch to line it up. But I've swapped a couple alternator pulleys between Aspires and Festiva alts without issue... just got lucky I guess lol.No festiva for me ATM...Comment
