  • Aspire vs. Festiva mpg

I own a '91 L Festiva. As I'm interested in MPG, I bought a Festiva instead of an Aspire as the Festivas seem to get better mpg. I would have thought that an Aspire would get better mpg with what looks to be a more aerodynamic body and more sophisticated engine controls. I know it's a little heavier and the final drive ratio is slightly different than a Festy, but why does the box shaped Festiva get better mpg?

        MPG

The EPA ratings may be close, but people have gotten over 50 mpg with a 5 speed Festiva, I've never heard of such mpg for an Aspire.

they list the weight of the 2 door aspire at 2004 pounds. i thought there was more of a difference than that.

is your aspire a 5 speed 2 dr, redfestiva? i cant remember your aspire, only your festiva...haha.

I think because the Aspire is both heavier and the emissions requirements on it could be stronger being a newer car. This I dont know for sure, just suspect. BTW newer technology does not necessarily mean more efficient technology. The carbureted Festivas got better city mileage and the only thing that held my 4 speed carbed festiva back from more than 42mpg highway is the lack of an overdrive gear. It never got less than 38 mpg though. It reved damn loud at 70mph. Needed a 5 speed bad. On the other hand it was a pretty zippy little car. However, I never checked my gas mileage periodically back then as I do now.

According to this the Festiva weighs 1795 lbs and the Aspire 5 door weighs 2053lbs. Yours could be different as my other car wighs less than what is listed officially. The Festiva gets 63hp/73lbft torque and the Aspire 63/74
