  • What small battery...

...do you run? I have used the lawn mower batts many times and did a bracket once to make it look nice, but want something even smaller that will still hold up. Looking at a Kinetik HC600, but I'm still not sure about it. It's made for audio apps to replace a cap so should tolerate short burst high current draw I think. I like the threaded hole terminals vs the through hole style on the mower units too.

    Thoughts?

Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

You should be fine with anything at or over 250CCA provided your alternator and belt are in good shape. I'll get you a model number and some pictures when it's light outside. It's nothing fancy at all, but I've been running it for two years on my B6T with zero problems.

That looks like about what I usually use. U1/U1P - 7 mower battery.

      The HC600 is 7 x 6.5 x 3 vs the U1 at 8.25 x 5.8 x 7.8. So a bit less than 1/2 the size and 4lbs lighter. I know I'm getting geeky about it, but that's what it's about really. Never-ending pursuit of perfection.

Hehe. I'm a fan of minimalism.

And yes, that starts my Escort's 2.0 just fine.

Ive always been concerned with being someplace remote and having to crank for awhile for some reason. Like it died and need to get it restarted, flooded, etc. Have learned that the deep cycle is more effected by the cold then a standard battery but it could just be that its rated at less CCAs. I think mine has around 500 but it can handle things such as running the radio or charging small devices off of it for a long time

Well, I managed to find a cheap Chinese alternative. $36 shipped. Still not sure if it's worth the gamble for a $20 savings, but I know myself, and I'll probably do it regardless how much sense it makes.

Now you can spend that money on a nice beefy set of ground wires! Be interested to see how it performs for such a low price.

It would surprise me if it isn't just an unbadged Kinetik. Looking at the case design and the size being the same, doesn't seem that far fetched. But I'll see.

Pulled the trigger on the cheapie. I'll try to remember to gets pics and post feedback after I get some time on it. Plan on a nice bracket for it too.

WAY too expensive for my tastes.

I've thought about this one as well and spoke to a colleague that used to work for Interstate. The smallest, currently available car battery is one for an early Mazda Miata. It's only 7 3/4" long x 5 1/8" wide x 7 1/4" tall. CCA ratings should be better than a lawn mower battery which in my winter climate is a good thing! That's the route I am thinking of going on my project car, mounted in the same location as Aaron and Charlie have done with their cars.
