  • tune up!!!!

Its time for a tune up on ol'blu i have had some sputtering and some i don't want to stay on deals the last couple of weeks. so i changed the battery cables sunday night, made my own ( by the way i have no pics of the prosses ill get some of the finish product) battery cables, as they do not make the ones for this vehicle any more, i used brass instead of lead terminal and had to set up the secondary ground to the chassis that's done, im also in the process of getting an optima battery, i can get it for around $40 and you can too, GO TO AUTOZONE AND LOOK AT THE MANUFACTORING DATE ON THE BATTERY AND IF THE BATTERY HAS BEEN ON THE SHELF FOR A YEAR OR LONGER THEY CAN DAMAGE IT OUT AND SELL IT AS A USED BATTERY.

I also looked into why it was sputtering and running so bad so i took the distributor cap off and spark plugs and everything was fouled, so i replaced them with autolite iridums and a new cap and rotor. and looking to get some 11mm morosso wires, also looked into getting an msd ignition coil for the car so it would b more efficient so, ill update as soon as i can...

Go get 100% (ethanol-free) gasoline. MPG will go up 8% to 5%. Almost 400 stations in NC & one in Durham. Hopefully it'll be 87 octane. Go to pure-gas.org for addresses & a great zoomable map.

the mid grade just changes the spark knock, but it being a 1.8 it doesn't matter I pumped at a different gasstation, I talked with some of the people that live in the neighborhood and asked them about the gas station, 2 of them that they filled there and the car was sputtering, I think they have moisture in the holding tanks and or water is leaking in there.

I changed my filter yesterday and I think it had not been changed since 1991... anyways blu is running awesome now, this morning on the way to work on I 40 I had to keep looking at the speedometer, where I usually go 65 I was going 70, and where I go 70 I was at 75 so I think that's an improvement, I now have wires ignition coil and filter upgrades to do.

ok keep me posted on the events

Keeping the ignition system in good working order is crucial on these cars. I swear i change plugs more in my festiva than my late model lol

Ethanol doesnt nessecarily mean lower mpg's. I get the same mpg on E30 as Regular. Quality of fuel is more important. But im from the corn belt of the USA and weve got some of the best fuel around. Try different stuff and see what works.

              Cheers
