So you'll notice the newspaper wadded up in the distributor hole. I unfolded it and saw that it was a Penny Pincher circular from 2001 (had new 2001 cars advertised in it).

Now I'm sure this motor wasn't rotated regularly, so should I worry about the valve springs?

The story is that this car came out of was in the May 3, 1999 tornado that hit Moore, Oklahoma and had the fastest winds ever recorded, 318mph.

Is there any way to tell what year of Escort GT the car came out of?

I type things in all caps on all my drawings at work and often a word doesn't look correct in all caps. I looked at that and went, ".......ehhh?.......nah, it's right."

I put a 1990 Miata block and head into my B6T Festi. Bought it from a Japan Domestic market importer, and it had clearly sat a very long time, probably outdoors for some of it. I used 5w20 dino oil, a half bottle of sea foam engine cleaner, and a shot of marvel mystery oil. Then ran it at idle for a few hours, with a few revs along the way, of course. It ran rough for a while, kind of banging and thumping. A friend said it was a lifter not working right. After it reached op temp, about 20 minutes after starting, it smoothed out. Like I said, ran it about 2 hours that way, and changed the oil to 5w40 synthetic and a new filter. It then ran great for a full race weekend at 10 psi boost.
I did open up the valve cover and clean what I could. There was also a thin light sludge in the oil pan when I removed it, which I would have cleaned away if I was using that pan, but I had to swap in the cleaned up B6T pan anyhow.
My friend also recommended I squirt marvel mystery oil down the spark plug holes then hit it with compressed air, to spread it to the walls and help loosen the rings. I didn't, because I was worried about all the rusty crud in the spark plug wells that I could not get at to fully remove, maybe getting blown into the combustion chambers. But it would have been a good precaution to take, if the wells were cleaner.

We turned it over with a socket at his place to make sure it wasn't locked up, it turned over fine. I got a bit of dirt that was between the v/c and back of the cam cover in there when I took the v/c off, I vacuumed it out best I could, I was trying to get all the crud out of the spark tube holes before I pulled the plugs. I'll turn the motor upside down and spray the valley and the tubes with carb cleaner prior to pulling the plugs to look at them. The wires had been pulled out of the holes, but the plugs still in. My plan is to replace the water pump and tensioner as well as the timing belt. I've drained the oil and plan on pulling the pan and checking out the bottom end. I will be able to use this pan, no?

I've got an A/C compressor and a Festy alternator to use for mockup, as well as the blue car is currently sitting without a motor/trans in it. I'm thinking of throwing a E-series on it and dropping it in there for mockup purposes, then bolting it onto the auto for the black car. I'm also planning on getting a GTX intake so I don't have to butcher the firewall.

When I go to get an EGT ECM, I'm assuming that a manual trans ECM is different than a auto ECM, correct? Does the Auto ECM control the F4A-EL in a EGT and would the F4A-EL fit in a Festy?

Unfortunately I don't get to play with it anymore for a week. Headed to Rock Island Armory at 6am, back Friday 3ish then off rock climbing with the Boy Scouts over the weekend. Maybe Tuesday night.
