  • Clunk and play in steering even after replacing parts.

    So I replaced the following

    Struts
    Lower control arms
    inner tie rods
    outer tie rods

But I still have a clunk and very slight play in the steering.

    What can it be?

BTW, If I pull up on the steering wheel it will rise about 1/2 inch.

I do not want to get alignment until I have it fixed.

    Thanks

    Ashley

    Steering rack bushings or mounts?

Also the actual gears in the rack can work loose or the bushing/whatever that the pinion shaft sticks through into the cabin may be messed up. Blue has this issue right now. Look at the part of the rack that sticks into the cabin while turning the wheel back and forth. If you see it wiggling around instead of just rotating, either your whole rack is moving like suggested above, or the gears are sloppy or maybe the bushing that the pinion shaft sticks through is hogged out from being worn. I think there was a mention of something that can be tightened to snug them back up if it's just loose, but I don't recall exactly what it was.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

Maybe I should make another run of steering rack bushings?
