  • Quick question

What size are the bolts/ nuts that hold the downpipe on? What size are the ones that hold the hatch on? Making a junkyard run and my car is too messed up to check with (hatch doesn't open, downpipe covered in jb weld (not my doing))

There are no bolts on the down pipe to manifold connection.
Three studs are in the manifold, you only need nuts, which I would buy new.
IIRC, they are M8x1.5, but I would take one off and match it up.
Personally, I use stainless fasteners on these parts with a washer and lock washer on each.

The ones on the hatch are the same ones that hold the fender on, IIRC.
Probably M6x1.5, but you should be able to determine if the fender bolts and hatch use the same bolts at the JY.

Thank you. I got the hatch... Downpipe was seized beyond belief. I need a torch...

If all you need is the down pipe, should have sprayed liberally with PB blaster while checking out the hatch.
Let it soak as long as possible, even over night.
        Then try and remove them.
Otherwise, you can snap them off pretty easily, if worse came to worse.

I let it soak for 4 hours by the end. Still wouldn't budge

            You need a nut splitter.

I probably do lol. I think I'll just try to find someone with a torch and just torch it off tomorrow or Saturday. I can't stand this loud exhaust anymore, and all my car needs now is a downpipe and a radiator. (Gonna pull that too.)

Car at the yard was very clean. Only had 98,000 miles on it... Looks like it got t boned by a suburban.

I don't know any yards that will let you take a torch in!
Just to snap the studs off, it's not too hard to do.

I got them yesterday, finally. Had to use a huge breaker bar and ~2 feet of extensions but they came loose. And I wouldn't want to break the studs off because, according to the guy at the counter, there's this family with like 6 festivas that always comes in and buys all the festiva stuff. Wouldn't want to break anything they might need.

Sometimes you don't get a choice they snap if the nuts are badly rusted.
That's why you use Stainless steel fasteners to replace them and lots of anti-seize.

That is exactly the reason I always have a 3/4" breaker bar in the car.
You just never know when extra persuasion may be required. I used a pipe wrench to remove my downpipe studs. However, the engine was already out of the car.
