Yes you can use that engine. An LX had the 1.9 liter engine in it. That definately looks like the 1.8 to me.

Yep, LX-E, the 4-door BP version of trhe Escort. But check the odo again, it only reads 5 digits plus a 1/10s place. So its got either 3400 miles, 103400 miles, or 203400 miles. If I had to guess I'd figure probably 103400, just judging from the pics.No festiva for me ATM...Comment

i drive a beater 92 LX-E for work and yes, that and the 4 door tracer LTS were motivated by the same 1.8 as in the scort GT. these cars were offered as a more "mature" or let's say stealthier alternative to the GT. they are pretty rare, especially the LTS and were upgraded over the standard escort with 4 wheel disc brakes, 7000 RPM tach, bolstered seats, sport suspension, unique front bumper, dual tip exhaust, and more. unfortunately mine is mated to the 4 spd OD automatic trans. it's programmed to get into and to stay in the highest gear possible and only a full throttle mash to the floor kickdown will unleash the beast. a terrible mismatch. otherwise, typical escort reliability (cause it's a Mazda really) and cheap to keep.Comment

Just my .02 cents but if you wanna really check what engine the car came with just use a vin decoder. I believe the 8th digit of vin. If its a 8 its a BP, if its a J its 1.9. But just from pics that's a BP.93 Festiva L Aqua(Fern) 5speed 218,000kms-DD and holding on (rusting )
