  • People with Turbo'd Festys that run intercoolers

Time to paint those Intercoolers of yours black, especially if you are running it on the drag strip.

Is it possible to increase your cars performance with nothing more than a can of black paint? Marty and Moog run a series of experiments to find out.FB https...

MCM proved that at idle with no air passing through it, painted black, there was a huge 100 degrees Celsius difference in air temperature than when shiny and unpainted. Though there was no actual gains when there was air passing through, there was no negative effect at all. The only negative is if your intercooler is mounted where the sun will hit it, then it will just act in reverse and will actually increase the air temperature.

But if it is nice and hidden, it should help increase your from-a-dead-stop acceleration.

Wouldn't the black one absorb more heat from the road too?

Example. Here in cruces it is getting to be over 100 on days and summer is just beginning. The road will absorb some of that heat and put it out again. Would a painted black ic absorb more of that?

But if you're at a dead stop you're not making hot air in the first place...

they said in the video that would be the main advantage at a stop light or on a strip. I was just wondering if they would cancel each other out

            No boost = no heat.
