        O.o

I want to know what the Bug was racing against. It looks to me like it had AWD with smoke pouring off the front tires and a bit from the rear! Dual engines?

EDIT - It was in the youtube comments... "That 4-wheel drive dragster the V-Dub ran must have been Tommy Ivo's 4-Buick engine "Showboat" dragster. It never could get any traction when it ran."

My bad - 4 engine, not dual engine. Lol, that is such an unbelievably wild car.

TV Tommy Ivo tells us how the 4 engine Showboat dragster works. Tommy does a great job walking around the car explaining the workings of this historic dragster.

To achieve that sort of 'oomph' out of a 1.6 is definitely gonna be at the expense of longevity. Valve job, new pistons, rings and bearings at every oil change!
GM (Chev if I understand it) was awarded the contract to power the one-way Allied landing craft at Normandy on June 6 1944. The stripped down regular production straight sixes had no provision for cooling and scrimped on everything (no bearings even) so as the meet the low-bid contract specs of providing continuous and reliable motive power for total of 1/2 hour. I always wonder what happened to these 'one-shot' motors once the dust settled. Desperate and inventive Frenchmen more than likely packed these things out and somehow resurrected them.

I couldn't imagine needing that every oil change
