  • Gas mileage

So I have an 89. And I was so excited to get it cuz of the gas mileage but it doesn't get as good mpg as it should. I'm wondering what is going on? It takes about $30 to fill it with premium. Any thoughts?

Don't use premium, your wasting money.
        Give it a tune up.
        Its an automatic.
If it don't fit, use a bigger hammer!

A few more details would be very helpful rather than a vague reference to not getting as good mpg as it should.
So what mpg are you getting?
As Chobobulous asked ATX or Auto?
What part of the country do you live in?
            Why are you using premium?
Are you tires fully inflated, are your rear brakes not disengaging fullly?
what average speed do you drive?
            MPG is in the details!

An auto will normally get around 32 in the city from what I read.

What are you getting for miles/gallon

Yes it's an automatic. I haven't figured the mpgs exactly but I fill it and I live in town. I filled it about 4 days ago. And have traveled maybe 45 miles and already at a half tank. I'm using premium cuz the old owner said that's what they use so that's what I have used. And yes the tires are good. Average speed probably 40.

So essentially you have no hard data.
Start keeping a log of miles driven and gallons used and after a few tanks let use know what you have.
FYI, very few of the Gas gauages are accurate.
Go fill it up now and I'll bet you can only get 1 to 1.5 gallons in it.
Navdoc101 is also correct you are wasting money on premium fuel.
I used 89 when I know the engine can make use of use it for maximum MPG, otherwise if the engine is tired, 87 is all yoiu need to use.

I wouldn't waste money on tune up until you know accurately what MPG you are getting.

This is a off topic question but. Does any one get less mpgs cuz of the weight in their car? Are festivas made for smaller people? I've been told that my husband and I in the car could be making us loose mpgs.
