  • My Plans & What Should I Remove...

Hey Guys, I plan on getting a WA festiva and doing the BP swap, I also plan on removing as much unwanted stuff as possible, such as: rear seat and seatbelts, any stereo system, rear wiper/washer, simplify the heater so it runs off a single switch to only demist the windscreen, remove the dash dimmer, remove the interior light, remove badges, remove antenna, relocate battery to rear, etc...

I also plan to install better brakes and suspension (possibly Aspire/Rio hybrid system)

My intention is to have the car as light as possible with a decent amount of power, everything must be functional.

Has anybody else done something similar, know of something else to remove or have any hints or tips for me?

Install a vented gas cap and get rid of all the vapour separation stuff near the fuel filler hose.

Why not remove the glove box, door panels and carpet while you are at it?

Come to think of it, just remove all the interior plastic panels.
The guy that I bought my Festiva off of, had already removed one of the rear seat support braces.

my former festiva (sold to dragonhealer) was a b3 automatic, but..... aspire swapped, escort wheels

no back seat, no carpet, no headliner, no console, no rear plastics, a/c removed, auto seatbelts removed, escort belts installed.

all the interior had was dash, front door panels, 2 seats and a dome lite. i no longer have any pics of that car. was a fun little car, i could haul a small block chevy in the back, hauled out a ford 9" rear end in it. even put 2 mopeds (70's pedal type" inside, without taking anything apart. and all doors/hatch closed!!

Bravekozak - never heard of a vented gas cap before but it certainly looks a lot cleaner!

I'm thinking of modifying the dash to remove the glovebox and air vents, I do still like the cleaner look of having all the interior pieces in but if I remove the rear seat support pieces i'd need to get some custom pieces made......might be easier just to leave those pieces out?

If you can find a gas cap that has a button to push to release the pressure before unscrewing, that is the easiest to modify. If you cannot blow out of a gas cap then it is unvented. Your vent is through your charcoal canister (another piece of extra weight that you can get rid off). I took my gas cap apart and removed the blockage. Three minute job. No problemo.
