  • New to Festiva's

I have a quick question. I just bought a 92 Festiva the other day
and I'm wondering if the engines are non-interference or if the
timing belt breaks I'll be screwed. I looked it up online, but about
50% of the people say it is and the other half says it isnt. Can
anyone whose broken a timing belt clear this up for me?

Since it's non interference and I have AAA, I figured I'll just wait till it goes. My car has 275k miles and I've had it for 60k miles and have no idea if or when the original owner changed it.

I can vouch for non interference, I had one break on my '88. got a new belt and put it on and ran like a champ.

Me too! My 88 died way out in the boonies. Got a ride to an AZ, got back, put in the timing belt, it started right up and I drove it away!

I still need to find out where to get the clips that hold
the throw out bearing. Sometimes those things crap up
                        over the years.

And do the timing covers tend to break on these when the
                        belt does finally go?

What are these clips you speak of?

There are no clips, holding the throw out bearing. It slides into a groove.

Timing covers are easy to find.

No clips, no clips, no clips

Oh good deal. Sorry, hadn't taken it apart. Only cars I've ever
owned that I worked on were my Subaru's so I want sure how
                            this setup worked.

Man, I've looked over all the junk yards around here and cant
find any Festiva's :/ Nothing seems to be all that easy to find.
Are there some in the yards out you

I have parts.... the timing covers tend to rub the inside of the water pump pulley and deform, but that's it
