So I've been hrearing about this "cut-off" switch- which for various nebuoulsy described reason "pops off" and shuts down the EFI electrical circuit-
When I had some early starting problems when I got the new '91 home a couple of weeks back-
I went in search of it-
I could find no plastic door panel for it in the trim behind the drivers door as it was described-
It's pictured in the Hayne's manual behind a little plastic trap door under the rear window.
wrong.
there was an indentation with something round I could feel under it- couldn't tell if it was "popped" or not-
WASN'T IT ANYWAY.
Found it today BURIED under stuff- a potential MAJOR HASSLE!
I always lose my back seats- live alone and don't need- all that weight!
Today I was taking the back radio speaker panels off- no speakers anyway, and the rear belts-
A MACE! Two MACES! Big heavy bolts and dOUBLE metal bolt bracket at the bottom-
selling gasoline! Stoning Fill-ups!
All standing worthless in front of access to strut tops
THERE AND BEHOLD, behind the rear plastic- right over the strut top-
THERE IT IS- The CUT OFF SWITCH
see attachment
anyway- unplugged it to see if car runs without it connected- NO.
but there it is- three wire connector-
one is the ground I guess-
take two of those wires and splice them twogether and I guess you can lose the whole piece of poo!
Don't pay some hack for a new "used" one if it fails-
ELIMINATE IT!
Not gonna mess it yet here- the back plastic is not going back on so it's in plain view- and instant access and sight line to tailights.
The other thing I tried yesterday was to mount a tire with just a lug wrench and screwdriver-
the one bead was incredibly easy, and I'd watched several youtubes of people doing it-done it on countless bicycle tire for 50 years-
The first bead went on so easily I thought it wouldn't be too bad-
but the next bead proved VERY tight
In full sweat I gave up after twenty minutes or so-
oh well- gotta have the tires balanced anyway- so I might as well as let the pros with the right tools do it-
Bought two new tires for the front- the backs are VERY good-
and a new used wheel for one, while the other fairly good front to be a full sized spare now
I'd painted the spare wheel- but somebody had driven the tire for some time and some outer wear on that- a full sized will be better-
and I think it will fit down in the well too!
