  • If you don't have a hitch, get one installed.

Just got a call from my mom (about 70 miles away, on her way home now). She just got rear-ended at a stop sign. She had an '05 Nissan Titan 4x4 behind her, took her foot off the brake (thus no brake light on), and switched to the clutch to move. A car was coming so she didn't move, Titan behind (20 year old guy in his dad's truck) thought she moved and accelerated. Bam.

They both got out assuming the poor little LX was smashed. Not a scratch, the hitch extension and ball was scraped up against his bumper! She says no damage, but I'll see when I get home.

    Festiva power!!!

Yeah, I was pretty freaked when she told me. She's never been in an accident and she's sixty-t (cough), I mean forty-two. She's pretty shaken.

The damage doesn't always show with a hit to the balls

I had a mustang tear its bumper cover off while I was sitting at an intersection, it rear ended the trailer I was towing...no damage to festiva or trailer outside of blocking a intersection from the shove.

She just got home, told me she had her brake ON. The only reason she wasn't pushed into the intersection. I'll report back if any damage in the morning (going to work, taking her car with me).

A hitch might minimize damage to the vehicle, but it may cause more damage to the occupants of the vehicle by not allowing the energy of the collision to be dissipated through the bumper. http://alerts.nationalsafetycommissi...-rear-end.html

Thanks for that Eagle. She's had a bit of neck pain this morning, now we know why. I'm really hoping it dissipates quickly.

Towards the car, absolutely no damage that I can tell. Drove fine at 70MPH this morning, nothing unusual.
