What are the two black strips on the roof called and how are they attached?

I recall cutting up the Teal car, but don't remember if I cut thru the roof or not and don't recall looking at the underside to see if they are bolted on or if they're glued on.

I think they are called rain gutters or rain channels or something like that.
Not sure if they're bolted on or with clips on this car, but hopefully that'll
give you something to go by.

I don't think they are there for channeling water.
I believe he channels are a results of the metal forming process to make the roof and A, B, and C pillars.
The filler strip is a rubber/TPO like compound that uses some sort of adhesive to bond it to the metal.

They are called ditch moldings. They are there to hide the weld seam between the roof and the rest of the body. I used to work for a stamping company that made them for a variety of cars and trucks. The funniest one was for the Dakota extended cab pickup. Chrysler had two part numbers on their computer. Both were nominal width if the roofs were perfectly centered prior to welding. If the robot put it on a few thou the right, then a l/h wide + r/h narrow were required. Vice versa for a few thou to the left of nominal. Since there was only two part numbers, Chrysler would pay us to expedite wides and narrows at their expense.

I pulled 2 off at a pap yard for my aspire ones that were missing.
flat rubber on top of a metal U shaped piece that pryed off of
what looked like receiver clips similar to the clips thats used to
hold the trim around the windshield of some cars.

the ones I got then snapped into the channel with a light tap
from a hammer and small socket used as a go between. it looked
like a pressure fit thing more than anything else.

The aspires must be different from the Festiva ones.

the seam on the festiva looks a lot wider too. the "clips" on the aspire were
actually welded to the car - one on each end and the trim piece kinda hooked over
each one. the clips had little knuckles sticking out to "catch" the trim ends.
kinda wierd but easy to remove/install
