has anybody completely removed the locks from their Festiva? I have locked myself out of my car with my keys in my hand many times...

I find rotted-out magnetic key boxes at the side of the road regularly, oftentimes with the spare key still inside. Those drivers are now driving around with a false sense of security! Better is to attach a key somewhere underneath (ie back of the spare tire pan or inside the front valence) with a wing nut, sheet metal screw or loop of brass wire because it's easier to get hold of a pair of pliers or screwdriver than it is to get inside the car, despite what some people claim. Another thing you may find is that door locks and ignition switches are worn badly enough after 20+ years that darn near anything resembling a key will open the drivers door or start the car. One of my Festys would accept any one of 6 different Festy keys that I had accumulated over the years.Comment

Shave the lock holes and use electronic locks?
You can also order a brand new complete set of lock cylinders from fourgreen for a Kia Pride. Still haven't gotten around to installing the set I bought, but they look really nice.Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.
