  • Tach guage cluster interchangability...

I have a '92 Fesiva with the EFI but it is a stripped base model, one side mirror plain jane guages, etc. I found a couple wrecks about 100 miles away in a yard and they both have the nicer tach instrument clusters. I'd sure like to have a tach and real instruments. These cars are both carbed though. Will these clusters interchange plug and play with my car?

I know I could do it on an old Toyota but Festivas are new to me...

Yes, they plug right in. I have a 89 cluster in mine. You just need to reroute the speedo cable from the center of the "frame" to the tach side of it, right side. Loosen the speedo cable from the transmission and pull towards the engine compartment and it's pretty easy.

I recall some folks mentioning that some of the early clusters featured a 'time to change gears' indicator light. The orange cluster I installed (white tach cluster apparently is most desirable but found only on the 1990-year) from an 88 didn't have the 'shift indicator' light and worked like a charm in my EFI 93 and as said in the previous post was entirely plug and play except for the chore of having to re-route the speedo cable. What you will enjoy from the cluster (aside from having a tach and an odometer) is that there is also a 'you've left your lights on' buzzer built in.

Cool, thanks guys. I'll snag one of them next time I'm down there.

Get them both! You can easily sell the other one for more than you paid for both of them at the yard.

This is likely true and it's also cheap insurance against discovering that one of them is faulty. Tach clusters consistently move along for $60-75 no questions asked and become quite a bit harder to sell once you start looking for $100. Betcha the boneyard will give em to you for $10-15.

Rerouting the cable isn't hard at all.

Also have and 80s tach cluster in my 91' L, works perfectly. I even chose it over a white tach cluster I had found, ended up selling that one on here. Don't remember who I sold it to though. lol
