  • one small step for Japan. a GTX in N America

here is the link to a photobucket album of GTX pics. password is japanoidGTX. the steel wheels where standard equipment for the GTX. fancier alloys were available but i kinda like these. they'll look better after powder and clearcoat. canvas top material is shrunken and stiff after 25 yrs. already sourced a new OEM mazda 121 replacement. another winter project. interior is very presentable. small tear on edge of drivers door card. uneven fading of dashboard plastics. chassis very clean. apparently from a no snow area of japan. acceleration feels about equal to my escort LX-E auto but without the harsh upshift. smooth linear pull to about 7K. steering response is right now with or without hard damper set. stable straight line tracking and good feel even with the PS. it was easier to get accustomed to shifting with the left hand than it was to stop looking up and to the right for the rearveiw mirror.

Thanks for the pics! Looks really nice! That's funny about the mirror, but makes perfect sense.

I still like my Festiva better. I sacrificed variable shocks for power steering and cruise. Maybe it's a good thing I didn't win the bidding war on the bay for those electric shocks.

If anyone wants to install the large plastic caps over the shock towers, they are still available on Rear Counter.

I don't think I could get used the rear view mirror being on the left either.

And I'm so frickin stoked to see that Beverage Cooler.Thats worth the price of admission right there Boss! I think its safe to say we might just have to vote you in as the "Grand Pooba"

so how would one obtain one of these? I know your trying the legal way to register it but i have no shame i would just do some swapping.

Looks like it runs a vacuum advance distributor. My guess is that the EFI on these is more like the 89 auto EFI than the 90-93 EFI.

Didn't know the BJ had VICS though. Its like a mashup of B6T and BP tech, minus the turbo and some displacement.

Thats my guess also,I didn't realize the 89 ATX had Vacuum Advance.Learn something everyday.

What a beautiful car. Great looks, great options. The pinnacle of design, right up there with the BMW E30.
